“Bettman has only a marginal interest in the weaker teams. He only wants the NHL to make a bigger profit as a whole.” -- Dominik Hasek

Avalanche Stuff Watch™

Another slow news day in the NHL, especially since the major free agent signings have come and gone. So, in order to avoid talking about the ongoing clusterf-ck in Nashville, I'll post another installment of the reader-favorite Avalanche Stuff Watch™!

Item #1 (a and b):

Chris Drury made big news this week by leaving Buffalo and the Sabres' co-captaincy behind for the urban caverns of New York City. He might now be playing with the Rangers, but you can still get your hands on authentic, game-worn Drury jerseys from his time with the Avalanche! And even better, you have more than one to choose from. Prefer his #37 assignment from the 2000-01 Cup year? Or maybe you like his #18 jersey a little better. Or maybe, just maybe, you have $2750 just lying around and can afford both. What's holding you back?

Item #2:

Nothing says "classy guy" like pleather apparel. Women melt at the sight of it. If you want to seriously upgrade your wardrobe, look no further than this Colorado Avalanche faux-leather men's jacket. And with a buy it now price of just $99, it's impossible to believe it's still on the market!

Item #3:

It took them a while, but finally Fathead.com has started producing hockey-related wall-hangings to match their huge inventory of enormous steroid-pumped football players. Number one on any Avalanche fan's list: a giant Joe Sakic. Sure, putting enormous pictures of grown men on your walls seems a little strange to your wife, but at $99, it's too good to pass up.

Item #4:

Hockey pucks make great collector's items. Hockey pucks with cool logos and photos on them are even better. If you're a puck fan like me, you'll definitely have trouble passing up this amazing find, now listed on eBay. That's right, it's a Colorado Avalanche puck complete with a lithograph of Peter Forsberg. Not only that, but it's arguably the worst picture of Foppa EVER! Only $4 if you act now. Hard to believe someone is actually trying to get rid of it, so take advantage of this great opportunity!

He may not have won the Lady Byng, but Avalanche captain Joe Sakic has won the honor of becoming just the third hockey player to join Upper Deck's roster of ridiculously over-stylized vinyl toys.

Limited to just 1500 in home (dark) colors and 500 in away (white) colors, the toys hit the market on June 19th at a completely reasonable action figure price of $49.99. They go up for sale at exactly 9:19AM PDT next Tuesday. Unfortunately, they don't seem to allow pre-orders. Looks like I'll have to stop whatever I had planned to do and instead sit anxiously at the computer with credit card in hand.

Not like I had anything better to do anyway.

Close-ups of the toys after the jump.

Avalanche Stuff Watch™

In my unending effort to help everyone buy extremely expensive Avalanche-related hockey memorabilia that you really don't need, I bring you the end-all, be-all of Stuff Watch entries: the Avalanche's actual equipment, now on sale!

On June 1st and 2nd, Altitude Authentics at the Pepsi Center will be selling a multitude of game-worn and game-used equipment ranging from sticks and helmets to socks and pants. If the Avalanche used it and now don't want it, it can be yours! This sale only happens once a year, so don't miss out.

I can't wait to put on a pair of sweaty hockey pants worn only 15 times by Jordan Leopold. Or maybe I can score some goalie pads that belonged to Jose Theodore. Never been used!

Avalanche Stuff Watch™

The latest and greatest Avalanche-related junk from around the internets (it's not a dump truck!).

Item #1:

Available from the MeiGray Group, a Paul Kariya game-worn jersey from the 2003-04 season for the completely reasonable price of $2995. Hopefully the buyer scores more wearing the jersey than Kariya did that year.

Item #2:

On eBay, a CCM helmet (complete with Avs logo on the side) autographed by Joe Sakic. So far no bids, but you can skip the troublesome auction process and just drop $299 right now. There's no word on the size, though, so your dreams of streaking the next local pee-wee hockey game wearing only a Sakic-signed brain bucket may be thwarted by an undersized...helmet.

Item #3:

Also on ebay, a certified mint Patrick Roy rookie card from the O-Pee-Chee set of 1986. You can own this extremely valuable piece of cardboard and ink right now for just $399. And you better hurry, because the offer ends tomorrow, and then your chance to throw your children's college money away---one hockey card at a time---will slip through your fingers.

Item #4:

Speaking of kiddies, you can distract them from the financial demolition of their educational future by getting them a Colorado Avalanche Die Cast Tractor Trailer from (oddly enough) MLB.com. With a price of only $12.99, you'll barely even notice that you fell for a cheap marketing ploy and bought something with absolutely no relation to hockey whatsoever. Go for it!

Avalanche Stuff Watch™

To be honest, I don't collect a lot of hockey memorabilia. Other than an Avs jersey, a Nordiques jersey (both replicas) and a bunch of old hockey cards I collected as a kid, very little of my personal budget is spent on hockey-related junk. Oh, I do have a couple of pucks and a few McFarlane toys of Avalanche players. Almost forgot about those. But yeah, other than all of that, my hockey swag is limited.

While I don't buy a lot of stuff, I appreciate and encourage others who do. So Dear Lord Stanley will periodically comb the internets (it's a series of tubes!) for cool Avalanche-related junk.

Without further ado, I present to you the first installment of Avalanche Stuff Watch™!!

Item #1:

On eBay, a 9.5-rated Joe Sakic rookie card from O-Pee-Chee. A total steal at a $229.99 buy it now price. Be the first on your block to spend more on a small piece of cardboard than most guys do on a suit (sad but true).

Item #2:

Also on eBay, a complete set of head-shot photo slides for the entire 1995-96 Colorado Avalanche team! That's right, you too can own tiny pictures of each Stanley Cup winner and bore your children to death with a private portraiture slide show! Totally worth the starting bid of $50!

Item #3:

At SportsFanfare.com, an autographed 8x10 photo of Alex Tanguay in the Colorado "alternate" jersey. So what if he's no longer on the team? At $53, how can you not buy it?

Item #4:

On the NHL.com Auction Network, a goalie stick signed by Jose Theodore and actually used in a Colorado Avalanche game! Current bid is $299 with only three days left, so don't wait! And remember, you know it's high quality because if Theodore used it in a game, it's never been scuffed by a single puck!
